Quick Tips for Scrapbooking Supplies
Scrapbooking Supplies: Paper Punches 101


 *Basic Punching Technique:  Place the punch on a sturdy table and stand over the punch.  Using the heel of your hand, press the punch down firmly and slowly.

*It is recommended to use punches on 60# cardstock or lighter weight scrapbooking paper.

*Aligning Repeating Border Designs:  To properly align repeating border punch designs, use the punch upside down.

*Punching One Shape Inside Another:  To punch a small shape inside of a larger punched shape, punch the small shape first.  Then turn the large punch upside down and align the small shape inside the large punch.

*Clearing Paper Jams:  If a punch becomes jammed with the scrapbooking paper inside it, place the punch with the paper in the freezer for 10 to 20 minutes.  The metal should contract, allowing the punch to release the paper without damaging it.

*Using Silhouette Punches:  Silhouette punches should be a part of your scrapbooking supplies.  They use a special double-die construction where one die cuts the outline of the design and the second one cuts out the inset shapes.  Because of this, you need to punch these deeper than regular punches, but not harder.  As you depress the white button on top, you may hear two slight clicks.  The first is the die cutting the outline, the second is the interior die cutting the insets.
